Thanks to all of you for coming out to the Austin Flea at the Highball. What a great venue for our little get together. We saw lots of new faces and got to visit with old friends, too. It was a great day.

Tell us who you are and a bit about yourself.
I went to school at Southwest Texas State University and received a bachelor's degree in Studio Art with an emphasis in Metalsmithing. I love what I do, I love art and creating things, but I don't take myself too seriously. It has to be fun. I also really believe that hand made art should be accessible to everyone - not just people with lots-o-money.

I live in Round Rock but dream of buying an untouched (no granite countertops please!) little 1950's house in the heart of Austin. I have a little studio in my house and I love it. It's filled with stuff I need and lots of stuff I like to look at. My staff includes: my webmaster, aka my husband Tom, aka Metalsboy, my mom, aka queen of errands and anything I can think of for her to do on any given day, my little brother and my dad from time to time, various friends who help me when I am in a panic, and last but not least my team of "alert" dogs who let me know when UPS or FedEx arrive, when the mail is being delivered to the mailbox at the curb, when a neighbor exits their house, or a leaf blows by.

That's about it in a nutshell.

We know you create awesome Metal and Resin Jewelry, but what else do you like to do?
I am pretty darn busy. Apart from my work my husband and I also helped found Blue Dog Rescue. I am on the board of directors and we still foster and volunteer. So that keeps me very busy. That and our 12 dogs and two cats. I also love to knit, bake, and hang out with my friends and family. I wish I loved to garden because my yard could really use it. Oh, and I am addicted to reruns of Law and Order.

Where does your inspiration come from?
That is a hard question for me. I've never been able to pinpoint what inspires me or seek it out when I need to. Fr me it's more about getting into a groove when I am in my studio. I get in there, put my Perry Mason dvd on and start working and I can look up and it's 1am and I think it's 6'oclock. One thing that does push me is wanting to make the people around me proud. My parents were so supportive of me choosing studio art as a major in college. They never once asked me "what are you going to do with that degree?" So I want them to be proud of me. My husband is infinitely supportive. And my grandmother and great grandmother, even though they aren't here, I often think about them and know that they would be happy that I am living my dream. And that makes me want to work hard to keep it going.

Stranded on a desert island - If you could only have one book, movie, and CD what would they be?
Book - This Much I Know Is True by Wally Lamb. It's one of my favorite books, I cried when I finished reading it because I was sad that these "people" would not be in my life anymore.

Movie is hard. I have my favorite movies that I admit to and my closet favorites...which one to pick???? If I am being honest even though it makes me real dorky, I would pick the first Lord of the Rings movie.

CD - also really hard. I love a lot of music but the one person I cannot imagine going the rest of my life without hearing is James Taylor. So I'd probably pick his greatest hits.

If you could spend the day with one artist or craftsman (dead or alive) who would it be?
Beverly Penn. She was my metalsmithing professor and I admire and look up to her so, so much!

What handmade possession do you most cherish?
Oh, this is so hard!!! I can't pick one thing. Here are a couple:

The quilt my grandmother made me when I was about 14. We went to the store and I got to pick out all the fabrics and she never once said "Uh, that doesn't go together!" My grandfather cut the squares and she sewed it together. I love that both of their hands went into making it.

My stuffed lamb Sugar. Sugar was not handmade to start with but he has had to be repaired by my mom soooooo many times that he's pretty much handmade now.

The Valentine's day card that my husband gave me this year. It's kind of an inside joke but it might be the sweetest thing he's ever given me. He designed it and it was all put together and sewn up by the fabulous Sandy Watluck of Paperoot!

My jewelers bench that my dad built for me. It is THE best thing EVER!!!

What’s your favorite lyric from a song?
Easy. It's from the Counting Crows song Goodnight Elizabeth. "I hope that everybody can find a little flame. Me, I just say my prayers, then I just light myself on fire and walk out on the wire once again."

Would you rather be a flea on a dog or a flea on Angela Landsbury?
Are you kidding? A flea on Angela Landsbury. That's a no brainer.

Tell us who you are and a bit about yourself.
I was born and raised in England and now live in sunny Austin,Texas with my chef/musician husband and one-eyed beast of a cat. Ever since I was a little girl, I envisioned having a creative and inspiring life, fueled by the beautiful and wondrous things around me. Living in one's head isn't always practical, but it makes for lots of adventures.

We know you create awesome Hand Silk Screened Products, but what else do you like to do?
Apart from illustrating and creating hand screen printed products I make fine art with a great photographer here in town. Currently we are working on a 9ft commission piece. I also like to paint and draw small illustrations.

Where does your inspiration come from?
I love architecture, interior design and the world we live in. I see patterns in the strangest places!

Tell us who you are and a bit about yourself.
I'm a mama of 2 and I've got a great honey bunny helping me raise them. My little lady is 4 years old, Cypress and she has a little brother named Buckley who is a walking 1 year old! We live in South Austin in a great hood. I sling beer part-time, thrift as often as I can, play in my garden, and am dreaming of opening my sweet sweet business one day.

We know you have a great eye for vintage wear, but what else do you like to do?
I've been a long time crafter. Sewing is my favorite of them all. I get impatient often, but I learn a lot along the way. Anything creative, I'm up for. I also love to sing, but it's not as pretty as the things I find and make. Oh, and I love dirty toes.

Where does your inspiration come from?
My day starts with what I put on. What I put on starts my day off. A friend of mine once said, how tidy your car is, shows how tidy you keep your house. I suppose I use that in my fashion sense. It shows how I feel, or at least how I wanna feel. So to answer the question, cheesy to say, everyday is an inspiration.

Stranded on a desert island - If you could only have one book, movie, and CD what would they be?
Well, my vocabulary is lacking, so I would take the good ol' Dictionary.
Movie wise, I guess I would take my favorite, Harold and Maude. A little happiness, mixed with sadness, and a love story, since I am stranded right?
Music, eesh... Maybe some Brazil Classics. Something comforting in another sweet language. This would give me something else to do, learn Portuguese!

Tell us who you are and a bit about yourself.
Right. Start out with the softball questions. Wow. I'm a average middle american chick who's probably too old to be a chick any more, but I don't like the alternate terms, so I'm sticking with it. I'm pretty boring on the outside--husband, two kids, two junky cars, house. You know the drill. I'm not much less boring on the inside, but I like to think I am. Oh, and I like long walks on the beach.

We know you create awesome Upcycled Jewelry, but what else do you like to do?
I love perusing the isles at thrift stores, which is great because I find lots of cool tins that way. I love to hang/work at my neighborhood coffee shop. Our neighborhood is filled with fascinating people doing amazing things and since they are all regulars, I get to have at least a dozen great conversations each morning. It's a perfect way to get all those synapses firing. I like to hang with my family too. Unless they are annoying me. Then I want them to go away.

Where does your inspiration come from?
The tins! Even if I've touched a tin a hundred times before, it's always possible to see something new. I also find lots of inspiration in boring, day-to-day things. Like a great color combination in someone's outfit, a pattern created by sunlight through a fence or the curve of a door handle. You really just never know what might ignite a whole new exploration.

Stranded on a desert island - If you could only have one book, movie, and CD what would they be?
Movie: Not Cast Away! Dang. I'm not much for watching movies more than once. Okay, both seasons of Rome. That's like one movie, right?
Book: Honestly, I think it would be e.e. cummings Complete Poems. It's the only book I can think of that would be engaging enough to read over and over again.
CD: Don't I get at least a nano? If I had to pick just one I'm going with anything Neko Case.

If you could spend the day with one artist or craftsman (dead or alive) who would it be?
It's a bit obvious, but Charles and Ray Eames. They were pretty bad ass. I think I could learn a lot from them in a day.

What handmade possession do you most cherish?
I cherish the concept of handmade more than any particular objects. I like stuff--especially thoughtful stuff--but tend not to get too attached to any of it.

What is your favorite color?
Seriously?! One? You can't make me. I love aquamarine, persimmon, cerise, and chartreuse. And I won't go away without also mentioning cornflower, crimson, citrine and chocolate. So there.
